Soccer started for the Ladies in St. Lawrence in 1977. Winnie being very young at that time tried out for the team and made it. Not only did she make the team but also she became a starter with a very strong team. Winnie's first coaches were two of our 1st Division players Rudy Slaney and Junior Edwards.

In their first year of competition the St. Lawrence Ladies won the Burin Peninsula Championship. Winnie played a major role during the season playing in a number of positions and scoring some very important goals.

In 1978 Winnie again play very competitively as she and her fellow teammates again won their 2nd Burin Peninsula Soccer Championship. She was also with the Ladies team as they traveled to St. Pierre for a very success tournament with the French ladies of ASIA and ASSP.

1980 saw a three-peat of the Burin Peninsula Soccer Championship. Winnie was selected for the first Ladies All-Star team representing the Burin Peninsula in the Newfoundland and Labrador Summer Games. In a penalty shot shoot-out, the BPSA Ladies defeated the Western Region to win the Goal Medal. Judy and George Cooper coached the team.

Sam Tobin coached Winnie and the Ladies in 1981. Although they had a very successful year they did not win the Burin Peninsula Title.

Winnie won a number of awards during her career including Most Valuable Player Award , Most Dedicated and Most Ladylike. Winnie very well earned these awards, as she was a player who always played at the top of her game.

Winnie credits her success to playing with some great players namely Louanne Turpin, Dick Turpin, Yvonne Edwards, Judy Pittman, Lisa and Sonia Slaney.

Considering there were no Provincial Ladies soccer and no minor soccer for girls it is remarkable how much success Winnie and her Ladies team had at the Burin Peninsula level.

Winnie's outstanding career certainly was one of a high quality and definitely earns for her a place in the St. Lawrence Soccer Hall of Fame.
